My creative process has become a meditation for me in the past few years. I am looking for and finding inspiration, solace, and beauty in nature. Since trees are among my favorite subjects and I am living in my home state of Colorado for a year, I spend as much time as possible in the mountains above the Denver area. I take a lot of photos and do sketching on site to find the perfect subject. Autumn is one of my favorite seasons here, when the Aspen trees turn yellow, orange, and even red. After I have done a sketch on site, my first image in studio is done with Prismacolor pencils on Stonehenge drawing paper. This is an archival, suitable for framing image that I offer with the completed painting or as a smaller piece. Once the reference drawing is complete, I'm ready to work on a large canvas!
